Time for my Halloween show! I’ll be creating and celebrating new worlds in the dome of the Fujitsu Planetarium at De Anza College in Cupertino, California. October 6. Tickets are available here!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUwZY-nKedk In August, 2005, I performed a new work: “Autocosm: Gardens of Thuban”. I consider this one of my breakthrough artworks. I had been developing and presenting my graphic performances for a couple of years prior to this event, and this was a quantum leap for me, technically and creatively. I premiered this piece for the annual SIGGRAPH convention, which was at
Arvana on Ruong Shi: Lucid Dreamscape of the Week! This one took me two weeks instead of one, and I hope it’s worth the extra effort! Arvana is on a mission on Ruong Shi, a planet of precious mystery and ancient wonder. My inspiration for this look comes from Heavy Metal magazine artists such as Moebius and Richard Corben. I
I’ll be creating and celebrating new worlds in the dome of the Fujitsu Planetarium at De Anza College in Cupertino, California. April 28. Other dates to be announced. Tickets are available here!
Winter Revelation: Lucid Dreamscape of the Week! The winter sun hangs low. It’s a somber season on any planet. We match our time to the frozen flow. The stillness and the quiet are a prelude to transformation. Designed and performed in real-time in my own game engine. Increased the crystal count for render. I composed the music to match the
A tip of the hat to Ken Jacobs for the technique!
City of Dreams 360: Lucid Dreamscape of the Week! Real-time creation of a futuristic city! Watch as I create a 3D cityscape and explore the new space. You can see my sparkly cursor moving around draw the futuristic buildings. This is a brief excerpt from a show I perform live. I performed something like this last weekend, though I evolved
Happy Halloween! Lucid Dreamscape of the Week! Live world creation! Join me as I create a 3D Halloween World inside a Jack-o-Lantern! This is a brief excerpt from a show I perform live. You can see my sparkly cursor moving around as I carve the pumpkin, draw the landscape, grow spooky trees, grow corn from candy, and puppet a ghostly
Rainbow Smokers: Lucid Dreamscape of the Week! Pumping rainbows into the sky, under a Harvest Moon. Transforming the environment to bring bliss into the world. What is needed is bubbling up from below the surface. I started this scene by drawing the pipe structures onto a landscape, and the story of this place emerged before me as I created the
Atrium Caelum: Lucid Dreamscape of the Week! A glimpse into a complex organic network, pulsing to a cosmic heartbeat. The atrium caelum (“heaven chamber”) is made of light and flows with energy. I created this scene and music, which inspired me to kick off the Lucid Dreamscape project. I hope someday to expand on this scene, and to demonstrate the
Fluorite Farm: Lucid Dreamscape of the Week! A landscape that rolls with waves growing a crop of shifting cubic crystals, like fluorite or pyrite. This idea evolved from the plan to demonstrate a landscape that shifts and changes. The overall scenario emerged from that. It’s an example of my process that does not include a verbal script or a storyboard.
Genetic Mainspring: Lucid Dreamscape of the week! “Genetic Mainspring” is a piece that I have performed many times live in my planetarium concerts. It’s an imagining of how long-chain molecules dance and play to the tick-tock of a clock. Is this how organic molecules dance when we’re not looking? Another way of perceiving this piece is how I “dance about
Fractal Networking: Lucid Dreamscape of the week! A branching fractal network. Only an extensive tour of a fractal geometry can give you the idea of its true dimension. This is just a brief glimpse. Notice that in this fractal there is far more empty space than filled space. I use this metaphor to describe how technology has branches, but most
Happy 4th of July! A transformative sketch for this week’s holiday! Fireworks transform into dandelions! Joy spreads like weeds! A tip of the hat to composers Sousa and Ives, for the inspiration for the “Stars and Stripes Trance” idea that you can hear toward the end. Be safe and sane with your psychedelic and explosive adventures! This is a recording
For this week’s 360 video sketch, I’m demonstrating some hand-crafted artisanal fractals! I sculpted, designed, and performed this world in real-time, set to my original music. I’m drawing the trees in the performance while I fly through the world. The trees grow generatively with the duplication of each gestural stroke.
A panoramic still from my weekly video sketch “PaprikaLand”. It’s a twist on the classic “Pepperland” from “The Yellow Submarine” film.
A graphic world for this week’s 360 video sketch. I sculpted, designed, and performed this world in real-time, set to my original music. The graphic inspiration was Pepperland from “The Yellow Submarine”, which still looks fresh 50 years later. The music is my cover of “The Mexican” by the prog-rock band Babe Ruth. The original 1972 track had that groovy guitar
A quick shot of the world I’m drawing for my latest video sketch.
After I flew around the space drawing my sculptures, I added a home so I could live among them.
